Just in time for the Double Ninth Festival, our new song Thinking of My Brothers in Shandong on the Double Ninth (九月九日憶山東兄弟) is now online. Over a thousand years ago, a young man spent the festival alone in Chang’an. The whole city was celebrating, yet he knew no one. He thought of his brothers far away, climbing to the heights at that very moment, every head decked with dogwood sprigs, and as they counted themselves, one was missing: him. Wang Wei wrote this Tang poem at around the age of seventeen, and its twenty-eight characters have tightened the hearts of travellers far from home ever since.
