Numeracy Baseline Check

Nothing is stored anywhere. Pick whichever domains you want today, work through them on screen, then print the report.

Before you start
  1. Ideally, a member of teaching or support staff supervises the check.
  2. Give the pupil a pen and 3–4 sheets of A4 paper (lined or squared is best). Have extra sheets ready in case they need more.
  3. Ask the pupil to write their name on every sheet and to show their working on the paper, with the question number next to each piece of working. This lets you see how they approached each question, not just their answer.
  4. At the end, print the report and staple the working sheets to it. Together they are the evidence, and the basis for planning any further intervention.
More info

This check looks at whether a pupil has the basic number skills they need before starting Year 7. It is pitched at the level expected by the end of Year 6.

It focuses on understanding and working with numbers: place value, times tables, the four operations, fractions, decimals and percentages. It is not a full assessment of maths. There is no algebra, geometry or data handling, for example.
